The Appalachian Trail crosses this breathtaking bald mountaintop situated along the North Carolina - Tennessee line.  The drive to the trail head is a little over an hour from Asheville, through the beautiful back roads of Madison County.  The hike to the top takes only about 20 minutes and the 360 degree views are expansive and sweeping in every direction.  The grassy bald encompasses many acres and it's easy to find a perfect spot for a gourmet picnic.   If you are looking for a short hike with a huge payoff, this is the one!  Bring a kite!  Songs and stories included.
